On Wednesday a group of Year Six and Seven students, [including Morgan, Crystal and Corbyn from our class] got together to complete a maths challenge. Our challenge was to figure out the link between Fibonacci, sunflowers and Palazetto Dello sport stadium. We found out that the link between the three was all to do with the Fibonacci sequence. Mr Fibonacci was a mathematician and found out the sequence that he invented normally always occurred in nature. The pattern of a sunflower's inside follows the sequence.
After we had found the link between those three things we had to add two more things onto the list. The two that we added to the list were roses and pinecones. We shared with Room 5 after we had finished.
At two O'clock children from other schools including us shared on a video conference, what we had found out in the challenge.
Pine cone.
Find the similarities betwen these!

The Forces' Bus
Today Room5 went to the Forces bus at the Forces bus we saw videos and it showed us what you could do in the future in the Army, the Navy, and the Airforce.
As you can see in the pictures there was a boat and personnel wearing medals.I'll tell you about the boat first. Jono is the driver and Crystal, Chloe and Holly are the passengers.
The medals were awarded to Cpl. John Goodwin. They are the Operational ServiceMedal and the General Service Medal, Soloman Islands [the green one]. In the videos there were troups playing different sports such as swimming, rugby and badminton.
Also in the video we saw troups taking part in activities such as helping on Peacekeeping missions and practising combat exercises.
The Forces bus was really awesome!

In art class our task was to design posters to welcome the Maadi Cup teams to Twizel. There are over one hundred teams entered. Jack designed a poster with some of the teams' singlets on it.
To colour the posters in we used pastels, crayons, coloured pencil and felts. On most of the Room 5 posters there are labels welcoming different school's teams.
M1, M2 and M3 students also made posters. They will all be displayed somewhere around the town square.
The opening ceremony will be in the town square on Sunday 25 March at 2pm.

Bicycles....bicycles
Check out this awesome cycling.
On Monday 12/03/12 Constable Hocking from Timaru came to school to teach us about Safe Cycling . She taught us about what to do on our bikes at T-crossings and about how to wear our helmets correctly. Did you know that stickers should not be stuck onto hemets? Why? ...because the glue on the stickers eats away at the plastic and weakens the helmet.
Our bikes were checked too, before we used them to test our slow-riding skills.

Safe cycling...easy riders.
This is when we had to go as slow as possible and Mellisa timed how long we could stay in the "box" without stopping. Some found it quite challenging.
There were 4 stations and the teams moved clockwise each time the whistle blew.Slow, careful riding was our focus. That was a really fun day.
